Gold (Angel Gilding)

Pure gold mirrors are translucent. The gold coating is delicate. The light that shines through a pure gold coating is green-gold.

Adding a layer of silver over the gold makes the mirror opaque and reflective. This double layer process is called angel gilding to distinguish it from gold leaf gilding.
