About Copper Mirrors

Our Bright Copper mirroring chemicals deposit a layer of copper on glass that is as bright and pink as polished new copper metal.

This new and improved copper mirror formula replaces our Original Copper formula. It is non-blistering, low odor and produces a pure copper color.
Copper mirrors:
  • Require two sensitizers - Tin for Gold and Palladium Sensitizer
  • Can be deposited over a layer of gold to create a bright peach mirror
  • Can be deposited over "flashed" layer of silver silver to create a pale pink mirror
  • Show as dark matte red on sandblasted glass
Copper chemicals are sensitive. When making a copper mirror, be sure to:

  1. Mix the chemicals in clean glass containers. Do not use paper or plastic.
  2. Rinse the Tin for Gold and Palladium Sensitizer thoroughly.
  3. Do not allow the copper to deposit for more than 20 minutes. Deposit two layers for a more opaque result.
  4. Back your mirror with Black Roll Coat, Century Clear Lacquer or Optical Black Lacquer.

FAQ - Copper Chemicals

Q: Why do I have to mix Copper Chemicals is a glass container?
Copper is a very reactive metal. Any contamination in the mix can cause the copper to blister as it is depositing on the glass. While you can mix silver and gold chemicals in paper cups, we find that glass containers cleaned with Glass Cleaner work best for copper.

Q: Is there any way to change the color of copper mirrors?
If you deposit a layer of copper on top of a layer of gold, you will get a warm "sunrise" mirror. If you silver the glass for 30 seconds and then add a layer of copper you will create a pale copper mirror. When you use this double layer technique, silver and gold take the place of palladium as a super sensitizer. Go to Metal Layers for details.
