Cleaning

Clean glass is essential to successful mirroring. Even the lightest fingerprint creates a barrier between the metal and the glass.

A Simple Test:
You know the glass is clean when a thin film of water "sheets" off without beading up even on the edges.
Notes:
  • Unlike many commercial cleaners, our laboratory-grade glass cleaners rinse clean.
  • Use hot* tap water for cleaning. Use distilled water for the final rinse.
  • Use a clean sponge or brush to physically remove cerium oxide.
  • Use alumina powder or pumice to refresh old glass or add "tooth" to new glass.
*Glass cleaners and cerium oxide work best with hot water - about 110 ° F. (43 °C.) The water from most hot water taps is about 140 ° F. (60 °C.)
