FAQ
Q: Can I use Tin for Gold to metallize other surfaces besides glass?Yes, you can use Tin for Gold to sensitize any surface before you mirror it. For hard to wet surfaces such as plastic use more Tin for Gold per square foot to ensure complete coverage.
Q: What happens if I use old Tin for Gold?
If your Tin for Gold has timed out, the mirror will be dark and uneven. Your mirror could be dark and uneven if the glass is not clean or your mirroring chemicals are too old. Usually it happens because your Tin for Gold has expired.
Q: Can I mix my own Tin for Gold using pure stannous chloride?
Stannous chloride crystals change size and weight when the ambient humidity changes. If the mix is too strong, the mirror will be streaky. If it is too weak, the mirroring chemicals will not stick to the glass. Using our Tin for Gold gives you more consistent results.
Q: If I rinse off the tin, won’t I desensitize the glass?
Unless you are using a fire hose, you will not be able to rinse the tin off the glass. Rinse the glass with plenty of distilled water. Be sure to tip off the rinse water before you silver the glass.
